Town hall: Tell us how bad antisocial behaviour is in your postcode

Council chiefs and police are urging residents to complete a short survey to paint a picture of the extent of antisocial behaviour in St Helens.

The poll will also cover drug-related crime, hate crime or other problems experienced by residents.

A town hall spokesman said: “Whether it is anti-social behaviour, drug related crime, hate crime or other problems that you consider to be priority issues where you live, the council and its partners would like to know how well you think the authorities are doing in tackling crime in your neighbourhood, how well informed you are about the work that is being carried out to reduce it, and how safe you feel in your area.

“The nine question survey then goes onto ask residents their views on the contribution of the council’s CCTV service - which currently has more than 100 CCTV cameras across the borough operating 24 hours a day - to see if they think CCTV cameras should be used to openly monitor activity in public places for the purpose of reducing, deterring and detecting crime – and if CCTV monitoring in public places reduces crime.”

Coun Lisa Preston, cabinet member for Community Safety, added: “The council and its partners take all types of crime and disorder issues seriously, but we would like to know what the public thinks we should be prioritising and how we can further improve in order to significantly reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

“That’s why we’re encouraging as many people as possible to complete the survey. We value all feedback and will use it to determine policies and actions to help fight crime and keep St Helens a safe place to live, work and visit for everyone!”
