Witnesses at the time described seeing Adamson throw roof tiles to the ground and unfurl a banner reading ‘beware the police state’.

Police were forced to close several roads around the town hall until the man came down willingly at around 11am.

St Helens Council later confirmed that around £11,000 worth of damage had been done to the roof.

Adamson will be sentenced on November 20 at Liverpool Crown Court after admitting criminal damage and affray.
