The hunt is on for thieves who stole a child's piggy bank.

St Helens officers are appealing for information following the theft of the piggy bank and two mountain bikes early last week in Newton Le Willows.

The Ashton Road home was targeted on Tuesday, July 4 at around 3pm. The bikes were a Specialized Rock Hopper in silver and a brand new orange Isla Creig 24 mountain bike. A piggy bank belonging to a child at the address was also stolen with cash inside.

St Helens Detective Constable Roy Waller said: "This burglary would have been a distressing experience for all the family but especially the children whose bikes they are; both these bikes were brand new to the family. It beggars belief that someone could steal a child’s piggy bank and I would appeal to anyone with information to do the right thing.

"I would urge anybody who was in the area during the afternoon of 4 July who saw anything or anyone acting suspiciously or any information that could be useful to come forward. Likewise, if you have been offered either of these bikes for sale in recent days, please let us know."

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives on (0151) 7776802, call 101, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
