But following his retirement from the game aged 32, Anthony opted for a unlikely career change.

He has now opened Cosmetic Body Clinic in Billinge, which offers a variety of non-surgical treatments including vacuum laser lipo, known as slimming machines, natural skin peels, teeth whitening, hot stone massages, botox, semi-permanent make-up and laser hair removal.

Anthony said: “Rugby League careers are quite short and so following my retirement through injury earlier this year, I decided to open up a cosmetic clinic.”

Anthony, who also played for Leigh and represented Lancashire and Ireland, said he does not get too much ribbing from his former team mates.

He said: “I have gone from once extreme to another – from being battered on the field to getting pampered.

“I have had a few things done myself, such as the teeth whitening and my wife Dawn is trying to get me to have a skin peel, which I am thinking of doing.

“But I won’t use the slimming machine.

“The rugby lads have been supportive and a few have been in for a hot stone massage and their wives have had their teeth whitened.”

Anthony, who has also set up a clinic in Sale, Manchester, is offering discounts for anyone who brings this article to the clinic.

He added: “Treatments over here such as laser hair removal are quite expensive. The machines we have are more advanced and powerful and are far cheaper.

“Non-surgical lipo services are quite big in America, and the most popular is the ‘lunchtime lipo,’ which takes only 45 minutes and is not invasive.

“This is the vacuum laser lipo, or slimming machine, which reduces fat, reduces wrinkles, stretch marks and cellulite.”

l Discounts include teeth whitening for £69 - original price £330; three one-hour lipo vacuum massages for £99 - original price £270; and non-surgical face lifts also for £99 - original cost £270.
