A man who attempted to steal an expensive sat nav system is among those who has appeared before magistrates in St Helens over recent days.

Michael James Laytham (38): Anne Grove, St Helens - Causing Aziz Ary harassment, alarm or distress, assaulted Aziz Ary - 12-month community order, £150 compensation, £60 victim surcharge, £775 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Daniel Hall (19): Ruskin Avenue, Newton-le-Willows - Failed to comply with requirements of a community order: Pay costs of £55.

David Allan Smith (50): Phoenix Brow, St Helens - Attempted to steal items of a value unknown from John Morris, committing an offence while subject of a conditional discharge: Jailed for eight weeks, suspended for 12 months, £80 victim surcharge, £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, £180 criminal courts charge.

Christopher Adam (18): Yorkshire Gardens, St Helens - Attempted to steal a Garmin sat nav worth £40 belonging to Lee Watson, damaged a Fiat Punto to the value of £150: Jailed for eight weeks, suspended for 12 months, three-month curfew, £190 compensation, £80 victim surcharge, £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Jamie Thompson Pickton (19): Hempstead Close, St Helens: Possession of an air weapon and a pocket knife without lawful authority on Elton Head Road, St Helens: Committed to prison for eight weeks, suspended for 12 months, £80 victim surcharge, £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service, £180 criminal courts charge.
