Terrified staff confronted during raid on St Helens bank

  • Raiders burst into bank shortly before opening time
  • Staff were left terrified by ordeal
  • Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage

Police are hunting three robbers who struck at a St Helens bank this morning (Monday, March 23).

Officers were called to the TSB Bank on Ellamsbridge Road in Sutton at about 9.05am.

Three men confronted staff before stealing a quantity of cash.

None of the offenders were seen with any weapons and no-one was injured.

The bank was subsequently cordoned off for crime scene investigators to forensically examine the building.

CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being located and house to house inquiries are underway.

It happened at a busy time of day when people are on their way into work. I’m appealing to anyone who may have seen something or know anything about this incident to please contact us

The three males, who all had their faces covered, are described as slim, and were all wearing dark clothing. They spoke with Liverpool accents.

Det Insp Paul Unsworth, of St Helens CID, said: “While, thankfully, none of the staff were injured, they have been left extremely shaken by this incident.

“It happened at a busy time of day when people are on their way into work. I’m appealing to anyone who may have seen something or know anything about this incident to please contact us.

“I’m particularly interested to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen these three men on Ellamsbridge Road or Peckers Hill Road around this time or anything suspicious in the area this morning to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
