such as computers. Det Insp Gail Rooney, of St Helens CID, told the St Helens Reporter that it was vital that residents locked their front doors and keep valuables out of sight from passers-by on the street.

Det Insp Rooney said: “There have been five or six similar incidents in the last three weeks in which a burglar or burglars targets unlocked properties in the early hours of the morning and steals whatever valuables are left on display.

“Along roads like Vincent Street the front doors open out straight onto the street so it’s important that residents lock their doors and keep their valuables out of sight.”

Det Insp Rooney added: “We would all like to live in a place where people can still leave their doors open like in times gone by but, sadly, that’s not the case anymore.”

Anyone with any information about these incidents can contact St Helens CID on 0151 777 1565 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
