A BUSINESSMAN has swapped tea tasting for retail after opening a new store in St Helens town centre.
Ex professional tea taster Lal Alawattegama recently opened the doors of his Cash Generator store in Church Square.
After living in Sri Lanka for 32 years, Lal finally decided to return to the UK to launch the latest store in the Cash Generator franchise.
He said: “Since 2002 I have been spending my time between Sri Lanka and the UK, and wanted to make a permanent move to the North West to be close to my family.
“Investing in Cash Generator was an obvious choice as my brother, who has three Cash Generator stores in the North East, introduced me to the brand. St Helens was the perfect place to launch my retail career, with a bustling town centre in need of a quality discount retailer.”
Originally from Manchester and an avid rugby fan, Lal is now firmly settled in St Helens and is already looking forward to checking out a Saints match.
The St Helens Cash Generator store sells both pre-owned and brand new LCD TVs and DVDs, IPods, musical instruments and jewellery.
Cash Generator managing director Julian Urry said: “Lal has an excellent array of skills to bring to his new Cash Generator store in St Helens. I am confident that he and his team will do a fantastic job and deliver exemplary service. I wish him all the best.”
