A SHOPLIFTER gave police his brother’s details after he was caught stealing T-shirts from a St Helens store.
David Freeman, 52, was stopped by police on Lowe House church’s car park after a security officer spotted him pinching T-shirts from the Sports Direct store in King Street at about 5pm on September 21.
Subsequent checks revealed that Freeman did not have a valid licence or insurance for the Vauxhall Insignia vehicle he was driving.
Chris Bivan, defending, asked Magistrates to give his client full credit for his early guilty pleas. He said Freeman, of Altmoor Road, Huyton, had a moment of madness when he thought he wasn’t being watched.
Magistrates fined Freeman £100, ordered him to £85 costs and endorsed his provisional driving licence with six penalty points.
