PARR Swimming and Fitness Centre is set to be given a major upgrade.
Work is due to start this Friday (June 29) on a new teaching pool roof, improved ventilation, better spectator facilities and new lighting in both pools.
Although the work will result in some disruption for pool users, the fitness facilities will remain unaffected throughout the construction programme.
The main pool at Parr will shut on July 15 and reopen on September 3. The teaching pool is due to reopen on October 29.
Coun Barrie Grunewald, the deputy leader of St Helens Council, said: “This is great news for the Parr community, with the investment restoring the full use of the swimming facilities.
“Together with the excellent fitness facility and the recently completed new changing rooms, Parr will be offering some of the best swimming facilities in the region.”
Alternative swimming facilities are available at Queens Park Health & Fitness, Sutton Leisure Centre and Selwyn Jones Sports Centre.
