Suspect charged over spate of break-ins

A ST Helens man has been charged with burglary, attempted burglary and robbery following a spate of break-ins in Sutton.

Stephen Carmody, 30, of Hoghton Road, Sutton, was initially charged following break-ins on Frederick Street and Hoghton Close and made his first appearance before St Helens Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday (June 25).

He has since been charged with three further offences.

All the alleged break-ins took place between Friday, June 21, and Sunday, June 23.

In one incident, a burglar forced his way into the home of an 82-year-old woman and stole the victim’s handbag - which had £200 cash inside. Carmody has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on July 11.
