CROWBAR-wielding burglars targeted a St Helens supermarket in the early hours of Monday September 12.
Police were called after staff disturbed two crooks who were wearing balaclavas at the Farmfoods store in Boundary Lane at about 7.30am.
No staff were injured and no confrontation occurred, but two women working at the time were left shaken by the incident.
The offenders made off with cash and are believed to have made their getaway in a silver car.
Police are now conducting further inquiries to check whether the vehicle spotted in the area at the time was connected with the incident.
Det Sgt Lee Stinchcombe, of St Helens CID, said: “This was an nasty incident, which caused upset to the staff concerned and we are now conducting further inquiries to catch those responsible.
