A high-flying St Helens student is setting off on a career journey after landing his dream job.

Ryan Fairhurst will start a new venture as cabin crew with global travel company Thomas Cook after discovering the range of travel courses attending at a college open evening.

The 18-year-old former Cowley High student began his studies at St Helens College on a level one Travel and Tourism course, and enjoyed it from the start.

And after successfully completing his level one studies, Ryan applied and joined the level two
programme.

He found the work a lot harder, but extremely interesting.

It was then, Ryan began his Cabin Crew training at the college.

Ryan says, “I loved the level two course, there was plenty of practical work, learning about time zones, customer service and marketing for example.

“Moving onto Cabin Crew was brilliant.

“It has been a lot of hard work but I would recommend it to anyone.

“We have taken part in wet drills at Fleetwood and been on visits to the Thomas Cook training centre.”

Ryan has recently had his interview with Thomas Cook and was successful.

He added, “The role is a mixture of short and long haul, so on long haul flights I will be staying over and seeing the world. It is really
exciting!

“My college courses have prepared me for my new job and I’ll be one step ahead when I start my Thomas Cook training!”
