St Helens’ iconic Steve Prescott bridge will be bathed in light tonight in memory of Violet-Grace Youens.

The four-year-old died on Saturday night after she was mown down by a hit and run driver on Prescot Road, St Helens.

Violet-Grace’s grandmother was also hit by the stolen Ford Fiesta and remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested and released pending further inquiries in connection with the incident.

A St Helens Council spokesman said: “The thoughts of everyone at St Helens Council are with Violet’s family.”
