A YMCA building was evacuated after a bin fire caused two windows to shatter.
Firefighters from St Helens and Eccleston were called to North Road shortly after 2pm last Thursday (March 6).
They quickly extinguished the blaze but two windows - about three metres off the ground - had shattered due to the heat generated by the fire.
Crews ventilated the building to clear it of smoke.
The building had been safely evacuated before firefighters arrived after smoke alarms activated.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Fire crews remained at the scene until just after 4pm.
A brigade spokesman said no-one was injured during the incident and investigators blamed arsonists for the blaze.
