Sonny Bill rumours quashed

SPECULATION that New Zealand whiz-kid Sonny Bill Williams is heading for Knowsley Road is way off the mark.

Coach Ian Millward admitted this week that he had made a telephone call inquiry about the availability of the 19-year-old Canterbury Bulldogs' rising star, but the club had not made an offer as suggested in the Sydney Herald by his agent, Gavin Orr.

MAN of the match Carl Forber grabbed two tries and landed five goals from seven attempts as Saints Senior Academy romped to a 44-10 victory over Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Knowsley Road on Thursday night.

The Senior Academy travel to Halifax tonight (Wednesday) and seven days later entertain Warrington Wolves.

FORMER skipper Chris Joynt will officially launch his autobiography next month and it is expected to be a surefire winner with Rugby League fans everywhere.

The 208 page book, which traces the career of the most successful captain in the Super League era, includes no fewer than 30 colour photographs.

Wigan-born Chris tells his fascinating story from his early days, his introduction to professional rugby at Oldham and then his move to Knowsley Road in the earlier 1990s – the start of a phenomenal string of successes, which included victories in Super League Grand Finals, Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge victory.

One of the toughest, yet level-headed characters in the game, down-to-earth Chris talks about his highs and lows at Knowsley Road, behind the scenes wrangling when he joined Aussie club Newcastle Knights for a summer, and gives praise to team-mates, opponents and coaches where due.

At the same time he isn't afraid to pull punches on failings in the sport or voice his opinions.

Chris Joynt: The Quiet Man will be published on March 19 and will retail at 16.99.
