CHRIS Joynt, former captain of Saints Rugby club, has joined forces with St Helens Council Trading Standards as part of a recruitment drive to encourage local traders to sign up to the council’s Trader Register.

Chris, one of the owners of local business Sure Fire Heating & Maintenance Ltd, based on Merton Bank Road, St Helens, is fronting the campaign in a bid to get St Helens builders, gardeners, plumbers, painters and other traders to sign-up and utilise the free service – which has an increasing number of consumers searching for potential traders everyday.

The register aims to put local residents in touch with traders who are committed to treating their customers fairly and honestly.

It also allows consumers to rate and comment on the standard of work they have received.

Reviewing Sure Fire Heating and Maintenance Ltd, one customer recently posted: “I cannot speak more highly of this company and the gents who completed the work. I contacted SFH through this website in order to assess my boiler situation and provide a quote.

“I am very, very pleased and would recommend the firm to anyone.”

Chris said the register had real benefits for both local businesses and consumers.

“Word of mouth is always the best recommendation,” he said, “and the register is a great showcase for those companies that go the extra mile to keep customers happy.

“People using the register can have confidence in the traders listed and see exactly what other people have had to say about them.”

Councillor Richard
McCauley said: “Our recruitment drive for the Trader Register coincides this week with National Consumer Week (12-19 Nov) with the theme – Cold Calling Don’t buy it – which highlights the dangers of using doorstep traders, who may not be genuine. Our Trader Register has been set-up for the benefit of local traders and consumers in St Helens with the aim of reassuring residents and getting things right first time.”
