RUGBY LEAGUE: Trophy triumph is the perfect ending for trio

Thatto Heath ran in ten terrific tries to Blackbrook's two to confirm their ranking as the top amateurs in St Helens.

Darren Woods was the first to touch down for his 43rd try of the season, Shaun Quinn began what turned out to be an off day with the boot as he failed to convert.

Mike Woods was the next to cross as he beat two men with footwork before powering over to give Quinn an easier conversion.

Mark Beech was sent through only to be dragged down just short, he wasn't allowed to regain his feet and a penalty was awarded under the sticks.

The orders were sent out to take the easy two on offer. Brook then opened their account and Heath then replied with a 70m interception try from Jamie Hill and one more for Mike Woods to leave it 22 – 6 at the break.

The second half began in the same mould as Darren Woods crossed for what proved to be the first of three more second half tries, comfortably out leaping his Brook counterpart to take a pinpoint cross-field bomb from Stott. Quinn made up for his inaccuracies with the boot by touching down.

Darren Woods went in again and next came the try of the game, as following a good kick and chase, Brook pinned Heath down in their own 20, pressure was put on Stott as he tried to kick, he tipped it on to Quinn who danced around a defender and raced down field, he drew the full back and launched Dave Sutton to go the final 30 metres to the right corner and Jamie Hill grabbing his second shortly after and Darren Woods closing Heath's account.

There was just time for Brook to get in for a consolation as winger Liam Cagliarini crept over in the left corner.

Nothing could take the shine of Heath's night and captain Mike Woods fulfilled his destiny to pick up a well deserved Man of the Match award before lifting the first trophy to go back to Close Street, with retiring old stagers Martin Horton and Geoff Williams.

It was a fitting way for the three – who have served the club magnificently for many years – to end their amateur rugby careers.
