POLICE in St Helens have launched a month-long campaign targeting drivers who behind the wheel drunk or high on drugs.
Officers will be conducting extra roadside checks throughout June at all times of the day and night.
A similar drive last year saww 3,443 drivers stopped and 123 arrested across the region.
This year, police are hoping to see signs that the road-going public are heeding their advice about drink and drug driving
Chief Insp John Hogan said: “The better weather and lighter evenings mean more people decide to visit their ‘local’ for a few drinks with friends and family.
“Our advice is - leave the car at home.”
