THE winner of the St Helens Reporter’s hair salon of the year competition is Classy Cuts.

Following a readers’ vote, the Ormskirk Street salon, which polled 383 votes, was singled out as the overall winner – narrowly beating strong competition from Urban Hair.

Classy Cuts manager Mandy Miller, 35, says the award success was particularly important for her salon because she only took over the reins last October – despite having worked in the salon for the last eight years.

She said: “We’re all absolutely chuffed to bits. It feels amazing to win salon of the year less than 12 months after I took over.

“We’re picking up new customers every week thanks to our adverts in the Reporter and business is going really well – but we’re still absolutely delighted to win.

“A lot of people have been coming to us after we did the hair for the wedding of Sam and Pat for the TV show My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. Sam’s one of our regulars and many of our new customers are becoming regulars too.”

Mandy, whose salon also offers sunbed sessions, teeth whitening and has a resident nail technician, added: “Obviously a lot of our customers come to us from St Helens, but some of our customers travel from as far as Wigan, Liverpool and Manchester.

“People say they feel like they are having their hair done in their own living room because we create such a friendly atmosphere.

“Me and the other stylists, Siobhan and Lyndsey, are all best friends and that rubs off on our customers. There’s always a lot of banter in our salon and we like to involve the customers in that.”
