ROBBERS wielding a metal bar threatened staff at a St Helens service station before escaping with a haul of cigarettes.

Police say two men targeted the Texaco garage on Jubits Lane, Sutton Manor, at about 9.45am last Thursday morning (January 20).

The duo left the scene in a dark blue Peugeuot 406 saloon car, which officers are now keen to trace.

Detective Sergeant Lee Stinchcombe, of St Helens CID, said: “This was a frightening incident for the staff who although unhurt have been left shaken.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Jubits Lane, or who may have seen this blue Peugeot 406 car in the area, to call us as they may hold vital information about the identity of the offenders.

“This was an extremely serious offence and will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police.

“We would appeal to the public to come forward with any information they may have so we can bring these offenders to justice.”

The two men are both described as being around 6ft tall, of stocky build and are believed to be white.

They were wearing dark clothing with their faces covered, but one of the men was wearing a high visibility jacket.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call detectives on 0151 777 1562, or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
