A BUDDING amateur football club has been given a revamp thanks to the help of a St Helens energy company.
A group of volunteers from SSE Contracting, based in St Helens, offered Ashton Town FC some DIY and maintenance help.
The group spent two days getting stuck in to a variety of DIY maintenance and painting jobs as part of the company’s Community at Heart Scheme, which gives every member of staff a day away from their normal work duties to do voluntary work for a local organisation or charity.
Keith Plumpton, depot resource manager at the company in St Helens, said: “We all really enjoyed the work, even though some of us had a few aches and pains the next day.
“I personally cannot thank Ashton Town FC enough for allowing my football team St Helens FC use of their facilities and I was only too glad to be able to give something back, even though the goodwill didn’t extent to our clash a few weeks ago when St Helens FC put Ashton Town FC out the local cup.”
Ashton Town general manager Darryl Picton added: “I can’t thank the lads from SSE enough for the help and it was great to see Keith doing some work when he’s here.”
