RESIDENTS are being invited to help make Haydock a better place to live – by giving up some spare time to forge closer links with some of the area’s youngsters.
Haydock Community Group works closely with young people at the Grange Valley Youth Centre in Clipsley Lane.
The trailblazing project sees teenagers sitting on the community group committee, organising and helping out at events and raising money.
St Helens mayor Tom Hargreaves recently called in to see for himself how the centre was progressing – joining some of the young people at a fun day event.
The council’s Sports Development team and Youth Service have worked closely with the community group to launch new activities including Zumba, fitness sessions, table tennis and kickboxing.
Despite launching just a few months ago, more than 100 young people now attend the sessions. But the group needs help if it is to maintain its remarkable progress.
