Pupils show their sporting spirit

LEGH Vale Primary School scooped the top trophy in the St Helens school games competition held at Sutton Academy.

More than 17 schools took part in the event with 423 pupils competing.

It was organised by St Helens Council’s sports development team in partnership with Aviva, Sutton Academy and its student volunteers and St Helens Sutton Athletics Club.

Runners up were Bleak Hill Primary with Rainhill St Ann’s taking third place honours.

The top two schools now qualify to represent St Helens in the ‘ School Games’ Level 3 Merseyside Final to be held in March 2012.

Councillor Eric Smith, cabinet member for culture, said: “This was a very successful event with everyone showing true sporting spirit. Organisers gave their all and the young sports stars really shone.”
