GCSE students from Rainford High Technology College paid a poignant visit to the Belgian town of Ypres, which was destroyed by the German army in the First World War.

Accompanied by teachers, the young historians spent time furthering their knowledge at the interactive In Flanders Field museum, as well as visiting the British war cemetery at Tyne Cot and the German war cemetery at Langermark.

The highlight of the visit, though, was taking part in the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.
