PROPOSALS to turn a Rainford site into a sub regional waste facility have a bit of a history.
The Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority originally pinpointed a site off Lancots Lane in Sutton.
But “significant local opposition” to the plan led to it being formally withdrawn by a St Helens Council Resolution when a consultation period finished in the summer of 2010.
The council subsequently endorsed the Rainford location, which is sheltered by woodland, as an alternative site.
If an alternative plan for the Rainford site is now approved, the waste transfer facility plan may have to switch to a third choice site.
