A CAR boot sale has been shut down with immediate effect - because it’s too popular!
Town Hall chiefs have announced the temporary closure of the weekly Sunday morning Chalon Way car boot sale.
Ever-growing visitor numbers had raised concerns over safety at the multi-storey car park.
So, following advice from the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, the decision was taken to close the car boot sale until further notice.
St Helens Council’s estates manager Steve Littler said: “Public safety is our number one priority and over the years we’ve made a number of changes to the operation of the car boot sale to keep visitors safe. The council is now carrying out a detailed review of the site.”
A Town Hall spokesman added: “Car boot sales are regularly inspected and the concern over the number of visitors, given the size of the venue, was raised following a recent inspection.
“The council is looking at other options now - including possible alternative venues.”
