Police will be handing out posters, beer mats and and bar entrance hand-stamps across St Helens this week warning that “One Punch Can Kill”.
The links between too much alcohol – and its potentially fatal consequences – will be underlined during a week of action.
Police patrols will be stepped up as campaign organisers – including St Helens Council, Merseyside Police and other members of the Community Safety Partnership - do all they can to urge customers to be safe around town.
Coun Richard McCauley, cabinet member for regeneration, housing, planning and community safety, said: “It’s important to demonstrate how too much alcohol can turn a good night into a bad one.”
Area commander Julie Cooke said: “Extra patrols will be on the streets in St Helens as the campaign is launched.”
