A MAN was shot in the leg after armed raiders forced their way into his home.

Detectives from the specialist Matrix team are appealing for information after a 24-year-old man was shot in Prescot on Monday night (March 14).

Officers were called to a house on Eaton Street just after 10pm following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers found that the victim was suffering from a shotgun wound to his leg.

He had also been hit with a crowbar.

The man was taken to hospital, where his condition is described as stable. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives are now working to ascertain a motive for the shooting, but at this stage it is believed to have been a “targeted” attack.

They believe that the victim was shot after a number of offenders forced their way into his home, before escaping in a red Volvo estate car towards St Helens Road.

A short time later a red Volvo estate, believed to be the same car used by the offenders, was found abandoned at Whiston Cemetery on Foxes Bank Lane.

Det Supt Richie Davies said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have seen this car to come forward.

“The original licence plates on the car were DA08 TZD and at the time of the offence the front licence plate was MF09 KFP.

“If you have seen this car in the last week, or have any information which could help us, please come forward so that we can arrest those responsible.”

Anyone with information should contact police at the force’s specialist Matrix team on 0151 777 5699 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
