Police have arrested three people following raids at homes across Merseyside, including St Helens.

Officers executed search warrants in St Helens, Liverpool, Sefton, Wirral and Knowsley at 7am on Thursday.

They arrested a man and woman aged 36 and a 33 on suspicion of drug offences after cannabis and brown powder believed to be a class A drug was found during a search of a house in Bootle.

Police also arrested a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of theft at a house in Kirkdale.

The series of raids were part of a crackdown on crime in the run-up to Christmas.

Officers also raided a house in Litherland where up to 18,000 cigarettes and tobacco was found.

A 57-year-old was arrested at the property and issued with a caution for cannabis possession.

The seized cigarettes have been handed over to trading standards.
