YOUNGSTERS from a St Helens estate were all smiles after being treated to a free summer sporting course - courtesy of their local bobbies.
Clinkham Wood’s dedicated community police officer, Jonathan Kent, helped to organise a three-day rugby and football course last week, and even enlisted the help of John Prescott - Saints’ community foundation co-ordinator.
Each of the youngsters who turned out at Kentmere Fields, Carr Mill, for the innovative course was then awarded a medal in a prize-giving ceremony last Friday afternoon (August 26).
PC Kent told the Reporter: “The course went really well - we had about 25 kids here every day. The first day was all about football skills, the second was rugby and the third was team games and team-building.
“We also held a little tournament and dished out prizes at the end of the week.”
He added: “The idea behind the course was to give local youngsters something to do in their summer holiday but also to promote engagement with police and PCSOs on the estate.
“We’ll definitely arrange something similar in the future - but it will be even bigger and better next time!”
