A Merseyside police officer has been jailed for two and a half years after he was found guilty of having sex with a prostitute.

Temporary police sergeant David Gibson, 43, was found guilty of misconduct in a public office.

It is vital that such allegations against police officers are brought to the attention of the police and the IPCC, properly investigated

He was found guilty following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

The allegation against Gibson has been subject of an investigation conducted by Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit and managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The decision to charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.

IPCC Commissioner Carl Gumsley said: “Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit, under the management of the IPCC, conducted a thorough, and professional investigation into the allegation against T/PS Gibson.

“It is vital that such allegations against police officers are brought to the attention of the police and the IPCC, properly investigated, and the appropriate legal proceedings allowed to take their course.”
