A POLICE Authority meeting due to take place in St Helens tonight has been cancelled due to the ongoing riots in major cities across the country.

The meeting was set to start at 7pm in St HelensTown Hall but a decision to postpone it was taken on Tuesday.

Riots took place in Toxteth, Liverpool, on Tuesday evening.

A spokesman for the police authority said: “The authority apologises for any inconvenience this may cause but will publish new dates as soon as they are available.”
