Planning officials in St Helens are among the quickest in the country, new figures show.

Data released by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) reveals that for the determination of major applications, the borough was placed joint 18th out of 336 local authorities for the period between July 2013 to the end of June 2015.

For smaller projects the council’s performance was even better – with St Helens planners retaining fourth place in the national league.

Coun John Fulham, cabinet member for employment, planning and growth, said: “Planning can be a time consuming process, so I’m pleased the latest figures once again reflect our ‘can do’ attitude when it comes to planning and inward investment, which is key to delivering on the borough of St Helens’ potential.”
