A PENSIONER had to be rescued from her car following a high-speed motorway crash.
Emergency crews were called to the westbound carriageway of the M62 - between junction six and Rainhill Stoops - shortly before 8.30pm on Tuesday (December 4).
When firefighters arrived at the scene they found an elderly woman trapped in one of the vehicles.
Fortunately, the casualty was conscious and breathing despite her car having left the road before resting halfway into a field.
The woman, aged 78, was trapped because part of a fence was preventing her from opening the car door.
Firefighters used a bow saw to free her.
She was assessed by paramedics at the scene but declined hospital treatment.
A 27-year-old woman, who was also in the carat the time, was also checked by paramedics. She too declined hospital treatment.
Firefighters from Whiston and Huyton remained at the scene until about 9.20pm.
