TRIBUTES have been paid to motorbike crash victim Mark Lyon (pictured).

The father-of-one, 24, of Windle Hall Drive, off Hard Lane, was killed on the evening of Sunday, June 19, when the Kawasaki motorcycle he was travelling on collided with a Renault Megane Scenic on City Road.

Mark, a farm labourer who was a keen runner, footballer and Liverpool FC fan, was a passenger on the bike at the time of the horrific crash.

Mark’s parents, Mark Atkins and Debbie Lyon, stepfather Ron Mullen, sisters Gemma and Stephanie and brother Brian have since paid tribute to their “darling son and brother”.

In a statement, they said: “Mark had just got over the split with his partner three months ago. He was devoted to his son, Jacob-James, who is seven-months-old, and loved him very much. He talked about his son every day, just like any proud father would do.

“We were all so proud of Mark. We are completely devastated by the loss of our darling son and brother.”

An inquest into the underlying cause of Mark’s death was opened and adjourned on Friday (June 24).

The rider of the motorcycle, a 32-year-old St Helens man named locally as Gary Keenan, sustained serious back and internal injuries in the crash.

A police spokesman said on Monday that he remained in a “serious but stable” condition in hospital.
