A Stockbridge Village man has been charged with the murder of off-duty policeman Neil Doyle.

Christopher Spendlove, 30, of Brandearth Hey, is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court alongside 28-year-old Andrew Taylor on Tuesday morning,

The pair are accused of killing PC Doyle, 36, outside a nightclub in Colquitt Street in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Friday, December 19.

Janet Potter, Head of the Complex Casework Unit of Mersey-Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service, said: “These men are now the subject of criminal proceedings and have the right to a fair trial.

“It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
