COMMENT - HS2 plan has major benefits

THE PROPOSAL to build a new rail interchange near Leigh connecting trans-Pennine services to the planned High Speed Two (HS2) trains could offer considerable benefits to St Helens.

Cuts to the railways have had a huge impact on communities in this area and, in today’s world, fast transport connections to major cities are more important than ever.

Since HS2 is being built with taxpayers’ money, it is right that as many people as possible should gain access to it.

Being as connected to HS2 as possible is also vital for St Helens to benefit from business and money which may flow north along the new railway route.
