A woman who was short of money was shopped by her mother when she sold a sofa which had been bought on hire purchase.

Laura Wallis, 22, was then asked to go to the police station about the theft – and caused damage at her mum’s workplace when her mother would not look after her children.

Wallis, a mum-of-three, of Exchange Street, North Shore, pleaded guilty to theft from Buy As You View Ltd, and damaging a door.

She was sentenced to a six-month community order with up to 10 days’ rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, fined £10 and ordered to pay a £180 court charge with £100 compensation by Blackpool magistrates.

Hugh Pond, defending, said his client, had sold the sofa in desperation because of financial problems.
