MP Watts blasts vote changes

ST Helens North MP Dave Watts has blasted plans to change the way voters register for elections.

Mr Watts said the changes would benefit the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.

He said: “They have already fiddled with the Council grant system in order that they can switch money from the poorest to the richest councils and they are currently proposing to alter the constituency election boundaries in order that they can increase their majorities at the next election.

Under the government’s proposals every member of the household will have to register individually. If they fail to fill in the individual registration forms, they will lose their vote.
