Mayor of St Helens Andy Bowden went back to his old school this week to pay tribute to long-serving dinnerlady Dorothy Keaveney.

Mrs Keaveney has served up lunches at District Primary School in Newton-le-Willows for the last 38 years - but is now set to retire.

Coun Bowden, who left District Primary just a couple of years before Mrs Keaveney started, paid tribute to her unstinting hard work.

He said: “I’m delighted to be here to present a leaving certificate to recognise your many years of service to the school and its pupils. Well done.”
