Man jailed for 12 years for stabbing

A St Helens man has been jailed for 12 years after he stabbed another man in the face and back.

Michael Hodkinson was sentenced for a section 18 wounding officenand also given a four year extended licence.

This was a nasty attack which left the victim with injuries to his face and back requiring surgery

The 20year-old attacked his victim at an address in Brooklands Road, Eccleston, at around 7.10am last October.

The victim required surgery for his injuries.

Hodkinson was arrested later the same day and was charged on Sunday, 30 October with the offence.

Det Con Phil Poynton said: “This was a nasty attack which left the victim with injuries to his face and back requiring surgery.

“We are pleased that this dangerous man has been removed from the streets of St Helens for the foreseeable future, and I would encourage anyone with information on knife crime to contact us, so we can take immediate and positive action to protect our communities.

“Merseyside Police is committed to protecting our communities from the criminal minority who choose to carry knives.

“It is never acceptable for someone to carry a knife and the consequences that can result from people choosing to carry them can be devastating.”
