A MAN suffered suspected spinal injuries in a horror crash near Whiston Hospital.

Emergency crews were called to the junction of Warrington Road and Bridge Road at about 2.30pm on Monday following a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Astra and a black Kia.

Firefighters removed the roof of the Astra before helping paramedics carefully lift a man out of the car on a spinal board.

Paramedics also assessed a woman from the Kia, who was helped into a waiting ambulance. Both casualties were taken to nearby Whiston Hospital.

Police enforced a temporary road closure from the roundabout near the retail park because two lanes of the roadway were blocked. Fire appliances from Huyton, Belle Vale and the specialist search and rescue team were all called out.

They remained at the scene until about 3.45pm.
