A MAN has been charged with criminal damage and affray after staging a protest on the roof of St Helens Town Hall.

Roads around the town hall had to be closed by police and a wedding was in danger of being cancelled after a man climbed onto the roof in the early hours of Saturday morning and refused to come down.

He eventually came down at around midday after a plea from the couple who were able to get married in the afternoon following an assessment of the damage caused to the building.

Shaun David Adamson, 33, of Sinclair Avenue, Warrington, will appear at St Helens Magistrates Court this morning.
