A FIVE-strong gang attacked a St Helens man in broad daylight as he strolled through Taylor Park.

Police say the victim, a 36-year-old man, was walking through the park at about 5pm on Saturday (June 11) when he was approached by five men near to the cafe area.

The men, each aged between 18 and 21, threatened the man before assaulting him.

The victim sustained head injuries, as well as bruising and swelling to his face and body.

He attended a walk-in medical centre and was then taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

His injuries were not life threatening, however, and he is now recovering at home.

Police say inquiries are now underway in the local area in a bid to track down any witnesses to the assault, or anyone who thinks they can help pinpoint the attackers.

The offenders are described as white and aged 18 to 21. They were all wearing dark coloured clothing and all spoke with slight Liverpool accents.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone with information, is asked to contact police on 0151 777 6811 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
