Woman flees high speed crash carnage

Six cars were destroyed following a high speed crash in Sutton.

Debris was scattered across Watery Lane after a female motorist ploughed into the parked vehicles on Tuesday night (June 24).

Local residents watched in horror as her Ford Mondeo screeched round the corner, bounced off their cars before careering to a halt 100m down a side road, Rolling Mill Lane.

A Renault Megane, two Corsas, a Ford Ka, a Nissan people carrier along with the car she was driving were written off.

Gary Brunskill, who lives on Watery Lane, saw the drama unfold out of his living room window. His son's Renault Megane was totally destroyed in the smash.

He said: "I heard a massive bang and dashed to the window. It was unbelievable, she was so reckless. I am surprised someone wasn't killed.

"She sped round the bend and narrowly missed a car pulling out from a side road, she then veered into the line of parked cars.

"The woman must have been doing at least 50mph - at one point she was driving on three wheels because one had come off in the crash."

She then fled the scene. Firefighters, police and paramedics arrived shortly after, but no one was injured.

Watch manager Mick Costello from Parr Stocks Road fire station, said: "We could not believe the amount of damage.

"She ran off shortly after, but we checked round the area to make sure she had not collapsed injured after trying to escape but we could not find her."

A police spokeswoman said: "There were many people at the scene so we are appealing for those who have not come forward to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 with any additional information.

"The car the offender was driving had no insurance but there were documents in the vehicle that we are currently following up."
