YOU’VE heard of yummy mummys ... now met the funny mummy!

New mum Cathey Briars from St Helens has been shortlisted for a national blogging award.

Primary school teacher Cathey started writing her daily My Funny Mummy online diary last summer – a month before the birth of her eight-month-old daughter, Betty.

And her hilarious “warts and all” posts about the trials and tribulations of being a new mum have now seen her blog voted into the final of a national BritMums Brilliance in Blogging award.

Cathey, 28, said: “I started writing the blog both as a creative outlet and as a way of charting every day of Betty’s first year. And I’ve really enjoyed it.

“I’m not a particularly maternal person and found the first four months quite hard. I felt as if there was something wrong with me if I didn’t take to motherhood like a duck to water.

“But the blog has definitely helped to keep me sane. Lots of other mums have been telling me they feel just the same. It’s nice to know I’m not on my own!”

The catchline for Cathey’s blog, which has made the final eight of the BritMums competition’s Laugh! category, is “One woman. One baby. One blog. No idea”!

Describing her blog as an “intimidatingly attractive” daily counselling session, Cathey, Axbridge Avenue, of Sutton Leach, also joked that it has allowed her to air the “mental torment that is my first year as an impatient and perpetually late new mum”.

She now hopes to continue writing the blog even when she returns to her day job as a Year Five teacher at Locking Stumps Primary School in Warrington at the end of next month.

Cathey added: “My blog is not fluffy or gentle or idealistic. I don’t pretend anything and I write with the intention of celebrating and laughing at the stress, the rush, the suspicious stains, the ungodly smells, the incessant wiping and the knock-you-off-your-feet love I have found.

“My partner, Dave, loves the blog too. It saves me from making his ears bleed when he comes in every night!”
