Two people were hurt following a three-car crash on the East Lancs Road. Emergency crews were called to Haydock Island shortly after 1.20pm last Thursday (April 24).

The occupants of each of the three cars were already out of their vehicles by the time firefighters arrived.

A 37-year-old woman, who had been travelling in a Ford S-MAX, sustained shoulder injuries and was taken to St Helens walk-in centre.

A 50-year-old man, who had been in a Volvo, suffered a slight head injury and shock. He was assessed at the scene by paramedics.

A 60-year-old man in the third vehicle, a Nissan Qashqai, was not believed to have been injured.

Fire appliances from St Helens and Newton-Le-Willows attended along with the force’s search and rescue team.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about 35 minutes.
