Three arrested following assault

THREE men have been arrested after a man and a woman were assaulted in St Helens town centre this lunch time (Friday).

The trio, aged 22, 31 and 32, and all from St Helens, were arrested after police and emergency services were called to flats above the town centre Barclays Bank at about 12.15pm.

On arrival at the scene, police found a 22-year-old man with injuries to his head and a woman with bruising to her face.

Both were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The scene was cordoned off - at the junction of Church Street and Hardshaw Street - and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
