‘This is our Nicola’s only hope’

A FUNDRAISING barn dance is being organised to help send a mum with an inoperable brain tumour to the US for pioneering treatment.
The event is set to be held at St Mary’s Catholic Club in Billinge on Friday, September 7, in honour of 37-year-old mum-of-two Nicola Kinley.
Although Nicola lives in Warrington, her mum Helen is a long-term member of the St Helens Choral Society.
Nicola’s world was turned upside down in May 2011 when she was diagnosed with an ultra-rare brain tumour – a brain stem glioma.
Since then she has undergone extensive treatment in the UK, but all to no avail.
Her family and friends now face a race against time to raise £200,000 to send Nicola on a treatment programme at the Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Texas, which has a terrific record of treating patients with terminal cancer.
Mum Helen said: “This treatment is Nic’s only hope of beating this terrible disease and allowing her to be able to see her children grow up.
“But as the treatment is not offered in the UK, it must be self funded. The initial costs of the treatment are about £30,000, and then monthly costs of about £6,000 to pay for the solutions that Nic will be fed intravenously every four hours.
“It’s a big ask. But Nicola is one in a million and is more than worth the effort.”
The September 7 barn dance is due to start at 7.30pm and run until 11pm.
